Toniolo Theatre

Teatro TonioloThe theatre was erected at the beginning of the 1900s under engineers Giorgio Francesconi and Mario Fabbris’ supervision.  Originally the structure could hold about 1000 spectators.  The interior was wooden and decorated with plaster, ornaments,  boxes and a balcony.

Towards the middle of the XX century the theatre was consistently modified and was reconverted into a cinematographic room till when, in recent times, a rebuilding project for the deteriorating structure was begun.
The works were concluded on 9.11.2007, together with the parallel project of recovery of decorative elements.
A tempera painting by Alessandro Pomi, representing ‘Apollo’s Triumph’ was brought back to light.
Nowadays the Toniolo is Mestre’s main theatre.
