Getting there by train

Getting there by trainIf you arrive by train you’ll reach Santa Lucia Railway station, Venice which is central to the city and near Piazzale Roma which is the car drop off point. From there the railway station, Lido is just a boat ride away using the public water bus, called vaporettos, run by the ACTV.

Trains arriving at Santa Lucia come from all over Europe and or Italy.  They are called Eurostar trains or Intercity, Interregionali and Local.
Bags can be easily transported outside the station using trolleys found on the platforms and inside the railway station itself. A luggage deposit is also available (near platform 14). It is open from 6am to midnight every day. There are also porter services called Cooperativa Trasbagagli that can tran sport luggage if you need to walk to your hotel.

In front of the the railway station are all the boat stops run by the ACTV. They take you all over the city and to outreaching islands.  Private taxi boats are another possibility. They cost more but are definitely faster and less hassle. They can be found in front of the train station too.
