Fifth World Conference on The Future of Science
The Dna Revolution
The Dna Revolution is the subject of the Fifth World Conference on The Future of Science that will be held on September 20 -22 at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, on the Isle of San Giorgio Maggiore.
The cycle of conferences is the most important event in Italy based on subjects concerning the reltionship between science and society.
THE FUTURE OF SCIENCE is a cycle of annual international conferences jointly organised by Fondazione Umberto Veronesi, Fondazione Silvio Tronchetti Provera and Fondazione Giorgio Cini.
Aim of the Conferences is to underline the importance of scientific development as essential tool to improve the quality of our life and to define a new role of science in the society of the third millennium.
This year's conference has been presented in Milan by James Watson, Nobel Prize for the discovering of the double helix structure of DNA, Giovanni Bazoli, President of Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Marco Tronchetti Provera, President of Fondazione Silvio Tronchetti Provera, Maria Ines Colnaghi, Scientific Director of the Italian Association for Cancer Research, Chiara Tonelli, Secretary-General e Umberto Veronesi, President of the Conference.
The Fifth World Conference on The Future of Science will once again explore a theme that puts science at the centre of the social debate, the DNA Revolution, and will address the significance of recent genetic research and its application in a variety of disciplines.
It will be discussed:
- the development of the organisms,
- their evolution and the emergence of our species;
- the application of DNA knowledge in biotechnology and the ways that genomic revolution is likely to influence all fields of life on our planet
- the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases, with a particular focus on cancer.

La Fondazione Giorgio Cini fu istituita dal Conte Vittorio Cini, in ricordo del figlio Giorgio, con lo scopo di restaurare l'Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore, gravemente degradata da quasi centocinquant'anni di occupazione militare, di reinserirla nella vita di Venezia e di farne un centro internazionale di attività culturali.
