Mapping the Studio: Artists from the François Pinault Collection
On display from 6th June 2009 to 6th June 2010, the exhibition Mapping the Studio: Artists from the François Pinault Collection will be shown simoultaneously at Palazzo Grassi and at Punta della Dogana, the new centre of contemporary art of the François Pinault Foundation, renovated by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando.
The exhibition, curated by Francesco Bonami and Alison Gingeras, is taken from a selection of Pinault’s seemingly immense and endless collection. Not only it tends to underline the analogy between artists' works and Pinault's perspective, but it try to create a dialogue between affrimed artists' works and young generation's one and between contemporary artworks and the history of Venice that can be viewed from the museum windows and all around the city.
Mapping the studio will expose masterpieces of contemporary art by Jeff Koons, Sigmar Polke, Cindy Sherman, Richard Prince, Cy Twombly, Takashi Murakami e Jake e Dinos Chapman. Among the emerging talents we will find works by: Matthew Day Jackson, Adel Abdessemed, Wilhelm Sasnal, Richard Hughes, Nate Lowman, Mark Bradford o Kai Althoff. And what about italians' artworks? Only few artists will be present: Fontana, Lo Savio, Stingel and Cattelan. There is a big expectation for the sculpture that will be exposed permanently in the open-air and showned to the public on June 3rd at 12 a.m.

Ogni stagione ha le sue ‘mode’, i suoi percorsi culturali
à la page, le sue fenomenologie dettate dalle tendenze
effettive dei linguaggi sociali e dalle più prosaiche esigenze
del mercato.
François Pinault president of Palazzo Grassi wins the battle with the
Guggenheim Foundation to build a new Venice art venue that should be inaugurated in 2009 in Punta della Dogana.
