Ottavia Piccolo leads the Mestre Film Fest jury
The elegant and refined Ottavia Piccolo, Italian film and theatre actress will lead the jury in the Short Stories section of the 12th Mestre Film Fest which will be held from 20th to 24th October, 2009 at the Centro Culturale Candiani, Mestre.
Making up the rest of the jury will be Maurizio Dianese, Gazzettino journalist, Serena Nono Venetian artist and director, Alessandro Beretta journalist, film critic, programmer and member of the film selection committee for the Milano Film Festival and Marco Segato Paduan film director.
Apart from the prize for the best international short film (2000 euros), the same jury, lead by Marco Boscarato, will award the prize, Premio Speciale Dino Boscarato – the joy of taste 2009 (1000 euros) to the film that best expresses a love of life shown through taste and the senses.
Federica Pirgoli will give the prize, Premio Speciale Lions Club Mestre Castelvecchio 2009 for the best entry from the Veneto region. The prize is worth 1000 euros and is a brand new category. Another popular category Videoforkids (videos for kids by young directors, 18 and under and from schools) will award three prizes of 500 euros each, donated by CINIT. Jury members are Mariolina Gamba, film critic and collaborator in Il Ragazzo Selvaggio, a magazine edited by the Centro Studi Cinematografici which is dedicated to communication and image audiovisuals in schools, also Manlio Piva, author of various articles and critiques, teacher and founder of Didattica del Cinema and audiovisuals at the University of Padua.
Maria Giovanna Coletti, is a teacher and represents Cadore DOC Film Festival.
After last year’s success the clowns from the association, Il Piccolo Principe, who take their brand of humour to the country’s hospitals and clinics, will entertain elementary and intermediate school groups in the mornings.
Carlo Tombola, author and director of videoclips leads the jury in the Videoclips section (prize of 1000 euros for Best International Videoclip). Charlotte Laura Garlaschelli, secretary of production and Walter Fontana, lead singer of the Vicenza band LOST, and a favourite among teenagers, are also part of the jury.
The best super short online film from those taken from the site www.shortinvenice.net will win 500 euros in the prize, Premio Cinit Corti&Web.
Other highlights are the presentation of non competing short film animation coming from the International Short Film Competition and Focus Animation (Concorso Internazionale di Cortometragegi e dal Focus Animazione) at the Milano Film Festival.
Because of the many entries, the deadline for presentation of short films is extended and closes on the 30th June, 2009. Entries close 1st October, 2009 for the competition Ciak si suona. Una sigla per il Mestre Film Fest. Fiction videos and animation in high resolution, dvd format with a maximum time limit of 45” and accompanied by original music (no copyright).
The winner will have his or her music become the official 12th edition film fest tune. It will be projected at the beginning of every item in the programme, published on the official festival sites (www.centroculturalecandiani.it and www.shortinvenice.net ) and used to promote the festival.
The prize consists of a gift voucher worth 500 euros to spend at the Feltrinelli Libri e Musica P.zza XXVII Ottobre, 30175 Mestre.
