Museum of Historical Fabrics and Costumes
Palace Mocenigo, at San Stae, is a stunning example of architecture in Venice at the beginning of the XVII century, and it holds precious decorations and paintings from the 1700s.
It constitutes the lodgings of the Study Centre of Fabrics and Costumes and a Museum of the same name.
The exhibition aims at relating clothing development to the changes in taste which included decorations. It highlights analogies in lines, decorative patterns and colours.
The displayed clothes and accessories are made of handmade fabrics, often enriched with patterns and laces, and are witness to the ability of craftsmen (weavers, tailors, embroiderer) who worked in Venice as the time and made it a city of elegance and luxury.
The most important examples of textile patrimony is preserved in the textile display cabinets. The museum also offers students a remarkable library highly specialized in the field.
