Candiani Cultural Centre
The Candiani Cultural Centre is a great multipurpose centre, with a high percentage of innovation, telematically linked to International webs, and it covers the role of centre of the Venetian mainland’s cultural promotion. It furnishes ideas and gives input for projects. It constantly aims at innovating and promoting quality projects and programmes that contribute to the community from a cultural point of view.
The Candiani Cultural Centre organizes and houses exhibitions, meetings, cinema and performances and it offers a wide range of services linked to technological innovation. The are divided in two levels:
1) The creation of a wide offer of courses and labs directed at different sectors of the public in relation to age, interests and educational levels. It offers immediate and free access to equipment;
2) A strong planning element, with research, monitoring and examination initiatives in the artistic realm and in new technology.
The centre offers performance space. The setting is the Toniolo Theatre which has been radically restored and modernized to become a new and prestigious space, the new mainland theatre.
At the same time, the library system, besides answering to the public reading request (mainly posed by young people), starts this year by offering technologically advanced and innovative services.
It is linked to the province’s system.
The final end aim is to establish a constant link with provincial, national and international cultural institutions.
The enlargement of the provincial Library in its new space next to the Candiani (with which it will constitute a single cultural centre), is part of a massive project to enhance the cultural services offered by Mestre and the Venetian mainland.
An example is the City Museum, presently in a state of construction, while the historical archive – fundamental structure of preservation and research – is its main point of reference.

This public archive, active from January 2003, is intended to keep, catalogue and evaluate Mestre, Marghera, the Venetian mainland’s audiovisual heritage.
"Walking" is the theme of the 2009 edition of Candiani Summer Fest, from 8th to 20th July: a wide theme in order to decline the actions of human beings in prose and in poetry trough words, sounds and images, beyond their mere mechanical turning out.
