More than 20 people were injured in the short but violent whirlwind that hit San Giuliano park in Venice on Friday 15 June, blowing away 8 of the 10 support towers for light and speakers,
iron constructions 20 metres high each and forcing organisers to call off the Heineken Jammin' Festival for health and safety reasons.
Venice Municipality, Milano Concerti and Heineken have been forced to announce the cancellation of their concerts scheduled for Friday night (June 15th), Saturday (16th) and Sunday (17th) at the Heineken Jammin’ Festival.
Aerosmith, Iron Maiden and the Smashing Pumpkins were all due to play on saturday night.
The festival, which attracted 20,000 music fans, was called off four hours before Pearl Jam were due to play on friday evening.
Cancelled also the concert of Vasco Rossi, the italian singer, scheduled for sunday night, the last day of the music festival.
Comune Venezia, Milano Concerti and Heineken had cooperated with great
enthusiasm and perfect harmony to achieve the success of the event,
which an absolutely unpredictable incident made impossible. Therefore they do hope to have the chance
to produce, in the future, important events such as the one they had so
carefully planned.
The italian attorney is now investigating about the security measures of the park to verify the responsibilities of the disaster.
