Barney and Beuys at Ca' Venier dei Leoni
Exceptionally, the Peggy Guggenheim
Collection, located in the halls
of Palazzo Venier dei Leoni in a permanent
manner, will be transferred
to the other wing of the Venetian
museum, inside the spaces destined
for temporary exhibitions.
A radical
change of identity which, although it
might initially amaze, at last becomes
absolutely natural: All in the present
must be transformed.
This is the mutual poetry of Matthew Barney and Joseph Beuys, two of the greatest protagonists on the international contemporary scene.
An American and a German, separated by a generation gap of forty years and by life experiences which seem to be eons apart, are now being compared one to the other.
Two "magicians of the multimedia" who, with video, designs, sculpture and showcases, have stripped the walls of the Palazzo, transforming them into a kind of performance setting.
The metamorphosis and the metaphoric use of materials and symbols is characteristic of their philosophy, which reveals not a few common elements, both aesthetic and conceptual.

From 2003 Venice’s Teatro Fondamenta Nuove di Venezia has been run by the Associazione Culturale Vortice, which has been active in the city since 1998 especially on the music scene.
