Venetians used to sanctify the 25^th of April before that day became the National Holiday of Italy liberation from fascism. April the 25^th was in fact the feast of Saint Mark, the patron saint of the Ancient Republic of Venice, whose relic was transferred in Venice from Alexandria of Aegypt in the year 828 by two Venetian merchants.

During Saint Mark's day celebrations a great procession with the most important religious and civil authorities goes across the city.

In occasion of the Fest of the Patron Saint, it’s a tradition for men to give a “boccolo”, a red rose bloom, to their beloved women.
