The first stop is Lazzaretto Nuovo, the island where the Health
Buildings of the Serenissima are still well kept inside the Austrian
walls. A trip from outside permits to enjoy the engrossing atmosphere
of the lagoon and to get in touch with plants and birds of the barena
(salt marsh).
In the island you can choose between two itineraries: the visit of the
rich archaeological heritage and the walking tour, immersed in nature,
along the Austrian patrol route that offers a wide panoramic view of
the north of the lagoon.
The second stop is St Erasmo, that, due to its fruit and vegetables, is known as “the vegetable garden and orchard of Venice”.
Programme:
9.15 h: meeting at Fondamenta Nuove, at Actv Boat Stop with a natural
operator of the company RiviviNatura and departure towards Lazzaretto
Nuovo, passing along the islands of La Certosa and St Andrea and the
Bocca di Porto (inlet) of Lido.
Visit of Lazzaretto Nuovo
12.30 h: Boarding to Sant’Erasmo, arrival in Sant’Erasmo-Capanna and
lunch break. Visit of the island on foot or by bicicle towards
Massimiliana Tower and visit of a farm.
16.15 h: Embarking at Massimiliana Tower and return to Fondamenta Nuove
through the Canal of San Giacomo passing along the islands of Crevan,
Burano, Mazzorbo, Madonna del Monte and S. Giacomo in Paludo

The itinerary winds its way through islands that played important economic and social roles in the past. The explanations of the guide along the whole itinerary help grasp the natural and historical value of this part of the lagoon.
