Getting to Venice by plane
If you arrive in Venice by plane you can easily reach the historic centre with one of the many public transport services connecting Venice with its main airport, Marco Polo or with the Ryanair airport Canova - San Giuseppe.
You can always choose between a wide private transport service of car or water taxis.
From Marco Polo Venice Airport
Bus ATVO

The buses leave outside the arrivals area on the right.
The ATVO also offers a direct connection from Marco Polo Airport to Mestre Train Station, at 2.50 euros, luggage included.

Bus ACTV
It is a public transport bus (Line 5) connecting the airport to Venezia (Piazzale Roma) and therefore makes several stops before reaching Piazzale Roma (it takes approximately half an hour).
The ticket is quite cheap - it costs 2,5 euro, but does not include luggage transport.
You have to purchase an extra ticket for each suitcase you're carrying on the bus (the same price as for passengers). Public Bus Line 15 connects the airport to Mestre Train Station.
For details on timetables you can check ACTV website: www.actv.it
Public ACTV watertaxi service
It is a private watertaxi service which uses public transport's stops - therefore it offers less expensive prices than private taxis. It links the airport to some of the most important areas of Venice.
The service includes the Alilaguna Red Line -between brackets are the approximate lenghts of time for each stop- which stops at Murano (30'), Lido (55'), Arsenale (1h.05'), S.Marco (1h.10') and the Zattere (1h.20') and the Alilaguna Blue Line which stops also at Fondamenta Nuove (30') and at S.Marco (58').
The Alilaguna connects the Airport to Venice Port as well. Both lines leave each hour.
The ticket price vary from a minimum of 5 euro; to a maximum of 13 € (this is the price for the link to the port).

Back

The best way to see the city, feel the atmosphere and discover the hidden corners is on foot. If, on the other hand, you want to see the palaces on the Grand Canal and are strapped for time, it is best to take a boat. The public boat service, run by the Actv, stops at all the main points of interest in the city and outlying islands.
It's better if you decide not to arrive to Venice by car but if you really want to - or maybe you ought to! - you must leave your car in one of the car parks near Venice, Piazzale Roma (the bus terminal) or Tronchetto and then you can continue by foot or by boat...
The best way to reach Venice is by train because you arrive closer to the city centre.
If you are among those lucky tourists arriving in Venice by ship, from the port you can easily reach the very heart of Venice, Saint Mark's square, using the private waterbuses of Alilaguna or the public tranport ACTV.
