Church of St Nicolò dei Mendicoli
The church can be found in a quiet corner of Venice with its bell tower dating from 1200s and all its original features still intact.
It was rebuilt between the 12th and 16th centuries and is, according to popular tradition, one of the oldest churches in Venice.
Under its portico dating from the 1400s, an architectural feature typical of Venice, the begging poor and praying sinners would gather.
The church is home to a 16th century organ and paintings from Veronese’s school.
Visiting times: from Monday to Saturday: 10.00-12.00. Sunday closed.
The church is closed from 20th to 25th of April.
